Heavens! I am having a difficult time coming up with a list. Jitterbug Perfume is likely a bit too racy for the club. I would *love* for everyone to read We the Living by Ayn Rand, but it is not particularly happy -- perhaps we can read it later on.

Enchantment by Orson Scott Card
The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri
The Ugly Little Boy by Isaac Asimov
The Snow Goose by Paul Gallico (very short)
Fifth Chinese Daughter by Jade Snow Wong
My Dream of You by Nuala O'Faolain (I've never read it, but it has been highly recommended to me)
American Is in the Heart by Carlos Bulosan
Dorothy Parker's poetry
Denise Levertov's poetry
There Is No Me Without You by Melissa Fay Greene (nonfiction)

And one more...
The Return of Martin Guerre by Natalie Z. Davis

It may be difficult to find a copy for everyone, but I recommend it highly -- above my other suggestions! It is speculative non-fiction (called on one site "stranger-than-fiction true story"), based on historical records from early modern France, and an excellent story. There is even a movie, which I haven't seen, but which seems to be quite popular.

I think our list it growing incredibly lengthy. Perhaps we should cease taking suggestions and begin voting on our final book selections. I'm starting to feel overwhelmed.
